    Georges Pompidou

    Georges Jean Raymond Pompidou, French statesman who served as Prime Minister of France (1962-1968) under Charles de Gaulle and later as President of the Republic (1969-1974). It promoted the economic modernization of France and facilitated the United Kingdom's entry into the European Economic Community. The Pompidou Center in Paris, dedicated to contemporary art, was created in his honor. He died in Paris on April 2, 1974 at the age of 62, a victim of Waldenström's disease.

Author of films such as "Domingo à Tarde" (1965), "As Horas de Maria" (1979) and "Os Abismos da Meia-Noite" (1982). He also dedicated himself to fantastic literature and academic research on cinema. He passed away in Lisbon on October 5, 2017 at the age of 86.
