Professor at the Higher Institute of Economic and Financial Sciences (currently ISEG), he dedicated himself to the democratization of knowledge, founding the Universidade Popular Portuguesa and the Cosmos Library. His commitment to education and social justice led him to face censorship from the Estado Novo. He died in Lisbon on June 25, 1948, aged 47.
