D. Pedro IV (born October 12, 1798, and died September 24, 1834) was the twenty-eighth King of Portugal and the first Emperor of Brazil. Known as "The Soldier King", he abdicated the crowns to defend liberalism, leading the constitutional forces against absolutism in the Portuguese Civil War.
