The history of Transpraia dates back to a period when Costa da Caparica was not yet a tourist destination known worldwide for its beautiful sandy beaches. In the 1950s, two industrialists from the region, Canas Cardim and Casimiro Pinto, decided to invest in tourism. The project then arose to install a railway line along the beach, connecting Costa da Caparica to Cabo Espichel, a distance of more than 20 kilometers, with the aim of ending the isolation of the coastline and creating a unique tourist product.
