Treaty of Salvaterra de Magos

Signed on April 2, 1383, this matrimonial treaty between Portugal and Castile was the major catalyst for the 1383-1385 dynastic crisis. The agreement aimed to outline the succession to the Portuguese throne, but its unpopularity and the massive threat to national independence triggered the revolution that elevated King João I to power.
