Conquest of Santarém

On March 15, 1147, the troops led by the first King of Portugal, Afonso Henriques, conquered the strategic city of Santarém from the Moors. This decisive night assault consolidated the advance of the Christian reconquest and paved the way for the subsequent capture of Lisbon.
