Saint Gregory V (Patriarch and Martyr)

Memory of Saint Gregory V, Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople. A martyr of the Orthodox Church, he was executed in 1821 by order of the Ottoman Empire on Easter Sunday, becoming a supreme symbol of faith and Greek independence.
