Several witnesses report having experienced the apparition of Our Lady of the Conception at the place of Rocha, near the Jamor stream in Carnaxide. The phenomenon triggered a deep wave of spontaneous popular devotion and pilgrimages to the area, later culminating in the construction of the Marian shrine.
