Melina Mercouri

Melina Mercouri (born October 18, 1920, and died March 6, 1994) was a celebrated Greek actress, singer, and activist. As Minister of Culture, she stood out for her tireless international campaign for the return of the Parthenon Marbles and was the main driving force behind the European Capital of Culture initiative.
