Luís Antônio Verney

Luís António Verney, Portuguese philosopher, theologian, teacher and writer, central figure of the Enlightenment in Portugal. Author of the work "The True Method of Studying" (1746), which proposed a profound reform of the Portuguese educational system, criticizing traditional methods and defending a more modern and practical education based on Enlightenment principles. His ideas significantly influenced Pombaline's education reforms. He lived much of his life in Italy, where he was a Portuguese diplomatic representative. He died in Rome on March 20, 1792, he was 79 years old.
