Launch of ISTSat-1

On July 9, 2024, a small satellite (nano-satellite) developed by Instituto Superior Técnico was successfully launched aboard the new European rocket Ariane 6. This satellite, ISTSat-1, is the third Portuguese satellite to go into space and the first developed by a Portuguese university. The launch, carried out by the European Space Agency, marks an important advance for Portuguese science and technology. The satellite, which has the mission of monitoring aircraft signals around the world, is a milestone for teaching and research in Portugal.
