Opening of Humberto Delgado Airport

Today we celebrate the inauguration of Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon, on October 15, 1942. IATA Code: LIS. The airport has two runways of 3,805 and 2,400 meters, located approximately 7 km from the city center. It receives approximately 31 million passengers per year. Initially conceived as a military airport during the Second World War, it quickly became Portugal's main air hub. The airport has undergone several expansions and modernizations, including the construction of Terminal 2. It is recognized for its modernist architecture and its importance as a gateway to Europe and other continents. It is also one of the largest employers in the Lisbon region, contributing significantly to the local economy.
