Opening of Lajes Airport

Today we celebrate the inauguration of Lajes Airport on the island of Terceira, Azores, on October 5, 1944. IATA Code: TER. The main runway is 3,312 meters long and is located 3 km from the city of Praia da Vitória. The airport serves both commercial flights and military operations, being a strategic NATO base. It serves around 500,000 passengers annually and is crucial to the local economy and the defense of the North Atlantic.
