Ferdinand von Lindemann

Ferdinand von Lindemann (born April 12, 1852, and died March 6, 1939) was a German mathematician. He achieved global fame by proving that Pi is a transcendental number, finally resolving the impossibility of "squaring the circle", a classic problem that plagued mathematics since Ancient Greece.
