World Oceans Day

Celebrated annually on June 8, this day was established by the United Nations to raise public awareness about the fundamental role of the oceans in the life of the planet. The oceans cover more than 70% of the Earth's surface, produce at least 50% of the planet's oxygen, are home to most of Earth's biodiversity, and are the main source of protein for more than a billion people. This day promotes awareness of the environmental challenges facing the oceans, including plastic pollution, climate change and overfishing.
