World Kidney Day
World Kidney Day is celebrated annually on the second Thursday of March. Created by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2006, it aims to raise awareness among the world's population about the importance of the kidney in human health and reduce the occurrence of problems related to kidney disease. In Portugal, there are around 800 thousand people with chronic kidney failure, the main causes of which are diabetes and high blood pressure. To take care of your kidneys, it is recommended: drink plenty of water, reduce salt intake, undergo periodic exams, control diabetes and high blood pressure, do not smoke, limit alcohol consumption and exercise regularly.
