Discovery of the Moons of Jupiter

On January 7, 1610, Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei used a self-made telescope to observe four celestial bodies orbiting Jupiter. The discovery of Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto conclusively proved that not all objects in the universe orbit the Earth, consolidating the heliocentric model.
