Creation of COPCON
The Continental Operational Command (COPCON) was a command of the Portuguese Armed Forces, created with the aim of creating conditions so that they could guarantee the fulfillment of the objectives of their program, presented to the Nation on April 25, 1974, with the territorial area of responsibility being the theater of operations in mainland Portugal. COPCON existed during the period following the revolution of April 25, 1974, being associated with the so-called "revolutionary left" and consequently extinguished after the coup of November 25, 1975.
