Canonization of Saint Anthony of Lisbon

Less than a year after his passing, Pope Gregory IX formally canonizes Fernando de Bulhões, immortalized as Saint Anthony of Lisbon (or of Padua). Universally recognized for his erudition, absolute dedication to the poor, and oratorical gifts, the Franciscan became the primary patron saint of the Portuguese capital.
