Approval of the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic

On April 2, 1976, the Constituent Assembly approved Portugal's first Democratic Constitution, marking the consolidation of civil liberties and the rule of law following the April 25 Revolution, with deputies elected, for the first time, by direct universal suffrage.
