Francois Truffaut
French filmmaker and central figure of the "Nouvelle Vague". He started as a fierce critic in the magazine "Cahiers du Cinéma" before revolutionizing filmmaking. His troubled and rebellious childhood inspired his first classic, "The 400 Blows" (1959). He said that "cinema is the art of doing beautiful things with beautiful women."
