Leader of the Social Democrats, Mette Frederiksen rewrote the Nordic political playbook by combining robust defense of the welfare state with extremely strict immigration laws. She led Denmark through the COVID-19 pandemic and the European security crisis, establishing herself as one of the firmest and most tactical center-left voices in Europe.
